This is a Hornby R3830 00 gauge model of BR Thompson A2/2 Pacific 60501 Cock O' the North, in BR Green with the early crest. The A2/2 Pacifics came into existence as a result of a war time need to simplify and standardise the LNER Locomotive fleet, as a result the 3 cylinder Gresley 2-8-2 P2 locomotives were rebuilt into Pacifics following a permission being given in 1943. 60501 Cock O' the North spent eighty-three days in Doncaster Works being rebuilt as a Class A2/2, the heavy overhaul taking place between 24th June and 14th September 1944. In a further overhaul/modification 60501 received the diagram 118 boiler betwean September and October 1952. Following these modifications 60501 was allocated to York, mainly working fast freights and slow passenger trains, with occasional appearances on workings to Kings Cross and on the GCR, and betwean Leeds and York.
